Why hasn’t the internet changed how people learn?
The internet has been a major part of children’s lives for two decades, but it still hasn’t had a major impact on how they learn (Covid video calls excepted).
CanDo thought: why not? For decades experts have proclaimed the era of “multi-media” education: why hasn’t it transformed learning?
We researched online education and talked to teachers, parents, kids and other experts. Everyone agrees that there is a large and increasing body of excellent online materials for learners. However, finding the good stuff is hard.
So we resolved to make it easy. 9 months later, we’re delighted to unveil HeyLearn.com: the web’s first search engine and reviews site for educational materials. We’re now in public beta, initially covering maths, physics, chemistry and biology for UK GCSE students.
HeyLearn enables students, parents and teachers to:
🔍 search for materials relevant to their courses (websites, videos, worksheets, quizzes and more)
📖 browse by topic (all resources are categorised into a “meta-curriculum” which encompasses all relevant exam boards)
🔬 filter search results for the exam (and exam board) they are studying towards
🌟 view and add ratings and comments to determine resource quality and relevance
💡 suggest additional resources for inclusion (subject to moderation)
📢 share activity history with parents, teachers or friends
Initial feedback has been very positive, but there is plenty we want to improve. We intend to build the internet’s default website for learners of all disciplines and ages. Please check out HeyLearn.com and do tell us your ideas for how to improve it at hello@heylearn.com.
